My South African Story
Around 95,000 Australians visited South Africa in 2007. “We are looking forward to breaking the 100,000 mark this year”, Bangu Masisi, General Manager, Australasia, South African Tourism said during a media briefing in Sydney late last week to launch the tourist organisation’s newest marketing campaign, My South Africa Story.
Set to commence on September 1, the marketing promotion has a two pronged approach incorporating a website where consumers can share their personal stories and images online, and a cinema and pay TV advertising campaign.
“We want Australians who have previously travelled to South Africa to visit the new website www.southafrica.net.mysastory and compare their stories with Australian personalities who have contributed their accounts. They can then upload their own experiences and photos” she said.
An online consumer competition to support the website will run through September and October. The top prize is a holiday in South Africa, she added.

An important element of the campaign is cinema advertising. New advertisements will screen during September and October and during December and January in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth to encourage Australians to learn more about the variety of experiences in South Africa.
“The country’s scenery, food and wine, diversity of tourism product will be highlighted. The second phase of the campaign will begin in the 2009 work. During this aspect of the campaign we intend to work with our partners to generate new products” said Masisi.
“It’s been a challenging but rewarding process to promote tourism to South Africa.†Masisi said that arrivals are increasing and business tourism is growing from this region.
