Myanmar National Airlines plane lands safely without front landing gear
Passengers on a Myanmar National Airlines flight had the pilots to thank for expertly landing at Mandalay Airport without any front landing gear.
The Embraer 190 jet with 82 passengers and seven crew members, landed on its belly but thankfully no injuries were reported.
The front landing gear repeatedly failed to deploy both automatically and manually, said Ye Htut Aung, depurt director at the Myanmar civil aviation authority.
The pilots flew around twice in a desperate attempt to release the landing gear but to no avail, he said.
"So they had to land with the back wheels. The pilot landed skilfully."
It was described as very smooth landing considering the potential danger.
Passenger Soe Moe told AFP: "Smoke came out when we landed. All passengers are OK."
A week ago a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane skidded off a runway during a heavy storm at Yangon Airport, causing some injuries but all aboard survived.
