Myanmar quake: Search for survivors continues

Sunday, 30 Mar, 2025 0

Survivors were being pulled out of wreckage almost three days after the powerful earthquake struck Myanmar and Bangkok

The death toll has now surpassed 1,700 in the Sagaing region, with double that confirmed injured.

This is close to the country’s old capital Mandalay.

Experts predict the number of dead will be significantly higher.

Strong aftershocks throughout the weekend have hampered rescue efforts.

In Bangkok, hundreds of miles from the epicenter, more than a dozen died, mostly at a high-rise construction site which collapsed.

Search and rescue operations were continuing in Bangkok throughout the weekend where up to 80 people remain unaccounted for.

Flights into and out of Bangkok’s two airports are normal.

Tourism Thailand said there is no reported disruptions to flight operations.

The Airports of Thailand completed inspections of six airports confirming no major structural issues.
