MyPlanet launches exclusive Grieg Anniversary Tour onboard Hurtigurten
Travel retail specialist MyPlanet Australia is offering an exclusive tour this August to celebrate Norway’s most celebrated composer, Edvard Grieg, onboard a unique one-off Hurtigruten cruise, with the tour combining a musical journey with one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines.
The nine day tour begins in Bergen, Edvard Grieg’s birthplace, and includes a visit to Troldhuagen, which was built by Grieg in 1884. Today it is a museum dedicated to the world renowned composer and the tour also includes an evening concert at the site.
From Bergen, the journey continues on a six night cruise onboard Hurtigruten’s MS Trollfjord. Besides breathtaking scenery, the cruise features daily lectures, music recitals and shore excursions in Ålesund, Trondheim and to the North Cape.
After 34 ports of call along the Norwegian coastline, the tour arrives in Kirkenes and transfers by plane to Oslo, where a sightseeing tour is included before concluding.
The Grieg Anniversary Tour includes fist class hotel accommodation, six days onboard the Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage, some shore excursions, most meals and transfers.
The Grieg Anniversary Tour commences in Bergen 18 August, 2007 and concludes in Oslo 26 August. The tour costs $4450pp, twin share, and $5390pp, single.
About Edvard Grieg:
Edvard Hagerup Grieg (1843 – 1907) was a world-renowned Norwegian composer and pianist who composed in the romantic period. He is best known for his Piano Concerto in A Minor, for his incidental music to Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt and for his Lyric Pieces for the piano.
Grieg was born in Bergen on 15 June, 1843, and passed away on 4 September, 1907. Since his death, his music has been used in numerous films, at theme parks, television ads and samples of his work has also been used by US and Norwegian music metal groups.
