Mystery blaze sweeps through famous Norwegian village
More than 50 people have been injured after a mysterious fire swept through a Norwegian village made famous by its historic wooden houses.
At least 23 buildings caught alight in the village of Laerdalsoyri while hundreds of residents were evacuated as high winds fanned the blaze.
16 homes were burnt down to the ground as well as industrial buildings, community centres and holiday homes.
The old village in southern Norway is a popular tourist destination in the West Norwegian Fjords area due to its well preserved wooden houses dating from 1700-1800.
Police are investigating the cause of the blaze which is currently a mystery.
Officials said that it was not immediately clear what had caused the fire, which started on Saturday night and continued to burn today.
