MyTravel confirms seven still missing

MyTravel has confirmed that seven of its holidaymakers are still missing following the bomb attacks in Sharm El-Sheikh at the weekend.

In a statement, the operator said 1,110 of its customers staying in Sharm have been accounted for, leaving seven missing. It said 220 people had been staying at the Ghazala Gardens Hotel, scene of one of the bombs that ripped though the resort.

Hope is fading for the missing holidaymakers.

It said it was too early to predict how business will fare to the resort but estimated the financial loss caused by the bombs and recent hurricanes in Cuba, Jamaica and Mexico to be £2 million.

“The company is appalled by these latest terrorist attacks and we extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved of the British, Egyptian and foreign victims,” MyTravel said.

It added it was liaising closely with the Foreign Office but was continuing to operate normal schedules to Egypt.

Around half of MyTravel’s 1,500 weekly carryings to Egypt head to Sharm El-Sheikh. The operator said customers with future bookings are being offered alternative accommodation, alternative holidays or refunds “as appropriate.”

The statement added that aside from recent tragedies, summer season was encouraging.

“We continue to make progress against our business plan,” it said.
