Name this airport Silicon Valley?
Sports stadiums and entertainment arenas have been doing it for years, so why not airports?
The Mineta San Jose airport says why not…and is seeking an advertising firm to sell naming rights to various parts of its operation. City officials say they are being careful about doing the advertising in a tasteful fashion.
The city already gets about $2.2 million in advertising annually but wants more, says the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.
Various airport naming rights are being marketed, including outdoor advertising on buildings and billboards.
Dave Vossbrink, a spokesman for San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales, says the city council this summer will be looking at sponsorships that make sense.
“That doesn’t mean you will bless every suggestion,” he said.
