Nassau cruise port hails another record year for cruise traffic
The Bahamas’ Nassau cruise hub has once again notched a record for cruise passenger traffic.
It welcomed 5.6 million cruise visitors last year.
That is a sizable 27% year-on-year increase of 1.2 million.
“We are incredibly proud to reach this significant milestone for the second year in a row,” said Nassau Cruise Port CEO Mike Maura Jr.
“We could not have reached this point without the unwavering support of our stakeholders, including the Government of The Bahamas, our cruise lines, local businesses, and the community.”
The $300 million port redevelopment was instrumental in providing the capacity to grow numbers at such a rate.
The project, which initially opened in 2023, added extra berth capacity, a new terminal building, restaurants and bars.
The additional berths are able to accommodate larger ships.
It has a potential capacity for more than 30,000 cruise passengers a day.
“The future promises even more growth for The Bahamas and its residents,” Maura Jr added.
