National Express to sell Dot2Dot

National Express is to sell its London airports transfer service Dot2Dot after just a year.

The wholly-owned subsidiary, which took trade bookings, was established in November 2007 following the acquisition of Hotelink.

But the rail and coach services company admitted the business has not attracted the right level of sales.

“We have taken the decision to exit our Dot2Dot start up operation,” the company said as part of an interim management statement.

“As we have highlighted previously, revenue growth has not been as strong as anticipated and we believe that our resources are better focused on our core business at this time.”

A statement from National Express added: “When the business was launched in November 2007, we wanted to develop a new travel proposition aimed at getting people to the Heathrow and Gatwick Airport in an environmentally friendly and cost effective way.

“The business was successful at delivering excellent customer service and creating a very strong book of corporate clients. However, the revenue did not meet our targets resulting in this difficult decision taken on Friday.

“Despite our decision, Dot2Dot continues to offer an excellent product and service to business and leisure travellers and we are looking to sell the business as a going concern.”

Group chief executive Richard Bowker, reporting strong growth across other parts of the company, said: “The travel industry is not immune to an economic slowdown and we are seeing evidence of consumers becoming increasingly focussed on securing the best value for money they can.

“We remain confident that public transport and the products and services delivered by National Express Group are well placed to deliver the value which consumers are looking for.”
