National Guard join covid-19 fight at Hawaii airports
The National Guard is stepping in to assist with medical screenings at all Hawaii Airports.
National Guard soldiers and airmen have begun screening inbound and departing passengers airline crew at all five Hawaii airports.
The unarmed guardsmen are at the passenger arrival gates and TSA security checkpoints at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Hilo International Airport.
They will also be stationed at Kahului Airport, Lihue Airport, and Ellison Onizuka International Airport at Keahole in the coming days.
They are helping with medical screening to check for possible covid-19 symptoms.
Passenger arrivals at Hawaii airports have declined to just a trickle since a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine order was issued.
According to the Hawaii Tourism Association, just 106 non-resident visitors and 93 transit passengers arrived last Saturday.
