NCL installing wireless internet across the fleet
Holidaymakers on a cruise with Norweigan Cruise Line (NCL) can now send emails from their poolside sun lounger.
NCL has installed wireless internet on one of its newest ships, Norweigan Sun. Passengers who have their own laptop can rent a wireless network card if they don’t already have one, and access the internet in certain areas on the ship, without plugging into a dataport. Previously, passengers would have connected via the dataport in their room, or used the internet cafe.
It costs £6 per day for the network card, and passengers are charged for use of the internet by the minute. Alternatively they can buy 33, 100 or 250-minute packages from 26 pence per minute. Passengers without laptops can rent them from the internet cafe for £22 per day. Laptops running on anything other than Windows XP will need to install software provided by the internet cafe.
Wireless internet is available by the pool, in the onboard lounges, meeting rooms, atriums and foyers. The technology will be on the rest of the fleet by the end of the year.
