NCL ship runs aground in the Dominican Republic
A Norwegian Cruise Line ship ran aground while leaving the Dominican Republic. Norwegian Escape left Puerto Plata and ‘made contact with the channel bed’ the line said.
There were no immediate signs of hull damage, NCL said, but was stuck for several hours waiting for high tide. After freeing itself from the sandbar, the ship is undergoing an inspection in port.
Norwegian Escape is headed next for the US and British Virgin Islands and then to Great Stirrup Cay private island.
