NCLH says strict vaccine mandate to stay ‘indefinitely’
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings says strict vaccine mandates for guests is here to stay.
According to President and CEO Frank Del Rio, vaccinations will be required indefinitely.
"We have indefinitely extended our 100% vaccination requirement. I think that continues to be a competitive advantage for our three brands," Del Rio said during an earnings call.
NCLH’s cruise brands require all passengers and crew to be fully vaccinated at least two weeks before departure, and show proof of vaccination while boarding.
It is applicable for passengers of Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises.
This means the vaccine rule will continue even after the CDC Conditional Sail Order ends in January 2022.
The cruise company reiterated the mandate in a letter to booked guests.
Del Rio welcomed news that the CDC approved vaccinations for children ages 5 to 11.
It will enable ‘an expanded group of 100% vaccinated guests, especially families’ to sail." Del Rio said.
NCHL has a strict no exemption rule for ship guests.
The company expects to return to profit by the second half of 2022 when it has all its fleet back sailing and occupancy levels reach pre-Covid levels.
