New airport in Delhi inaugurated
Delhi’s newest international airport is officially open.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present for the inauguration of the first phase of Noida International Airport in Jewar.
Located about 75 km from Delhi, the airport will serve as a second gateway for the capital as well as the Uttar Pradesh region.
It is developed under a public-private partnership with the state run Noida International Airport Limited and Yamuna International Airport Private Limited appointed as the airport’s operator.
The terminal measures about around 100,000 square metres, and has 10 aerobridges and an automated baggage system.
The first phase has capacity to handle about 12 million passengers.
When fully complete, the $4 billion development could potentially handle up to 70 million passengers annually
Commercial services are expected to start soon.
