Former MyTravelLite head Julian Carr has been named as managing director of low cost airline bmibaby, succeeding Crawford Rix.
Carr moves up from being the airline’s commercial director.
Prior to this he spent two years working for IATA in Montreal where he was responsible for marketing and business development opportunities within the airline sector.
He started helping to launch Jet2.com and moved to MyTravelLite as head of marketing and development before taking over as managing director of the airline.
Prior to entering the airline industry, Carr had ten years of management experience within the entertainment industry, working with both Virgin and Blockbuster.
Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, CEO of parent company British Midland Limited, said: “We are delighted to appoint Julian Carr as Bmibaby’s new managing director, he is the right person to lead the airline into the next stage of Bmibaby’s development.
“Julian has extensive aviation experience, proven strategic capabilities, and has demonstrated his leadership in a number of high profile management roles. He is also passionate about the business.”
Carr said: “Bmibaby is extremely well placed to build on its strengths, and I am looking forward to driving this business forward.
“I want to continually improve the customer’s experience and make bmibaby the airline of choice for the destinations that we serve. We have an outstanding team at Bmibaby and I am delighted to be leading them.”
