New CEO for Fly Asian Xpress
KUALA LUMPUR: The shake-out of Malaysia’s aviation sector continues.
Fly Asian Xpress Sdn Bhd (FAX), operator of the new long-haul low-cost airline AirAsia Longhaul, has appointed Azran Osman-Rani as its chief executive officer, replacing Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali.
Raja Azmi will remain a director in FAX.
At the Paris Air show this week, FAX signed a contract for 15 A330-300s, increasing its initial commitment by five aircraft.
Said Dato’ Tony Fernandes, FAX director, “The firming of the additional orders reaffirms our ambition to be the world’s most profitable point-to- point long haul low cost carrier.”
Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines has announced changes in its management team as it enters the second phase of its Business Turnaround Plan.
Managing director and CEO, Datuk Idris Jala said, “Only in highly exceptional cases, where there is a shortage of specialist expertise within the company and succession issues, will extensions be granted to high performing individuals. Such decisions will be made purely at the discretion of the company.”
The airline is also setting up two new subsidiaries, Malaysian Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Sdn Bhd and MASWings Sdn Bhd to allow these companies to concentrate on their core business.
The managing directors of MAE and MASWings will be Mohd Roslan Ismail and Dr Amin Khan, respectively.
