Chicago has been ranked the second top US destination 2014 by travellers on TripAdvisor.

New York is still in the top spot but Chicago comes in at number two, surpassing San Francisco in this year’s rating.

"This ranking is another indicator that Chicago continues to deliver a memorable experience for visitors," said Don Welsh, President and CEO of Choose Chicago.

"Chicago continues to reinvent and elevate itself as a leading destination for domestic and international travellers.

"Our market is responding to the heightened demand in leisure tourism with highly anticipated hotel openings this year, including the world’s first Virgin Hotel."

Fourth was Las Vegas, 5th New Orleans and 6th Los Angeles. San Diego, Seattle, Washington and Orlando came in 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th place respectively.
