Former Expedia European distribution head Tamer Tamar has been named as president of ebookers.

He replaces Alan Josephs, who is resigning to pursue another professional opportunity, ebookers parent company Orbitz Worldwide said.

Josephs will remain with the company through July to ensure a smooth transition.

Tamar was previously vice president of Europe and Middle East (EMEA) distribution for Expedia and joined the company in 2004

He joins ebookers on July 30.

Orbitz Worldwide president and CEO Barney Harford said: “The European market represents a significant growth opportunity for Orbitz Worldwide, and with the migration to the global platform behind us, ebookers is well positioned to be a strong European online travel player and an important part of the Orbitz Worldwide portfolio.

“Tamer Tamar’s deep strategic insight combined with his extensive experience in the European online travel industry positions him very well to take the helm of ebookers.”

He added: “I also want to take the opportunity to thank Alan Josephs most warmly for his significant contributions to ebookers.  We wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Tamar said: “ebookers has considerable opportunity for growth in Europe and I am thrilled to be taking on this new role.

“I am confident that with a strong technology platform and the global footprint of parent Orbitz Worldwide, ebookers has the potential to deliver meaningful innovation to consumers in Europe.
