New Foreign Office advice hints at possible green list destinations
In a signal of which countries may make the ‘green list’ for safe travel, the UK Foreign Office has changed its advice by lifting warnings on several holiday destinations.
It is no longer advising against all but essential travel for Portugal (not including the Azores), the Canary Islands and the Greek islands of Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos, Corfu and Crete, as well as Gibraltar, Malta and Israel.
It doesn’t include other parts of Spain or Greece which are still blacklisted for non-essential travel by the FCDO.
Still, there is no guarantee yet that these destinations will make the cut to the low risk ‘green’ list of safe countries.
The changes are based on the ‘current Covid-19 risks’ and vaccine rollout it says.
Overseas leisure travel is still banned until at least May 17 and the government is expected to announce this week which destinations are on the green list.
