New GM for Great Keppell Island
Accor Hotels and Resorts has appointed Mr Grant Fleet as General Manager of Mercure Resort Great Keppel Island.
Prior to his Great Keppel Island appointment, Grant held the position of Acting General Manager at Mercure Townsville and was Executive Assistant Manager of Novotel Palm Cove in Cairns prior to that.
He has been in the hospitality industry for fifteen years. He began his career with Rydges Hotels and Resorts and served in senior management roles in Rotorua in New Zealand, Canberra and Port Douglas.
Since being re-branded as a Mercure Resort on April 1, 2005, Great Keppel Island on Queensland’s Capricorn Coast has undergone a successful transition from an under-35 ‘party island’ island and now appeals to a broader market.
Grant who how resides on the Island with his family said that he was looking forward to taking the resort into it’s first Christmas holiday season under the Mercure banner.
“It’s an exciting time and current bookings are indicating that we’ll have solid business over the holiday months,” he said.
Located 55 kilometres east of Rockhampton just slightly above the Tropic of Capricorn, Great Keppel Island can be reached by a scenic, 20 minute light-aircraft flight from Rockhampton airport or a 30 minute boat transfer from Yeppoon’s Keppel Bay Marina.
Far enough north to capture year round sun yet far enough south to avoid seasonal tropical downpours, the 1454 hectare Island features 17 pristine white sand beaches, sheltered bays, reefs and translucent aqua waters together with the Mercure Resort’s extensive guest facilities.
