New head for Co-op’s travel interests
The newly promoted deputy chief executive of the Co-operative Group is to oversee the organisation’s travel interests.
Paul Hewitt is to chair the steering group and management board of the £1.3 billion annual turnover Co-operative Travel Trading Group, the buying and marketing organisation responsible for seven travel businesses. He also has executive responsibility for travel retailer Travelcare.
His twin responsibilities follow the departure of former CTTG managerment board chair Yvonne Rankin to AS Watson International and the retirement at the end of this month of steering group chair Willie Tucker (Midlands Co-op).
Hewitt was previously group finance director at the RAC and Redland and both finance and marketing director of Euromoney. He joined the Co-op in 2003 as chief financial officer and has just completed a secondment as acting head of the Co-operative Bank and Co-operative Insurance Society.
He said: “CTTG has already demonstrated its worth in providing Co-op travel businesses with a strong platform for growth and has a clear business strategy in place.”
CTTG chief operating officer Mike Greenacre added: “Paul’s role as chair of both governing bodies will allow for greater co-ordination between them and give him insight and input into all aspects of CTTG’s operations.”
