New hotel developments lead to increase in Fiji
The Fiji Daily Post says that Fiji has had a major increase in its accommodation inventory, from around 7800 in 2004 to more than 10,000 as of August 2007.
The Chairman of the Fiji Visitors Bureau, Patrick Wong made the revelations during the Travelscene American Express Conference held at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort.
The results were mainly to do with the inclusion of new hotel developments and major refurbishments to existing hotels and resorts, from large ones to intimate and boutique resorts.
“This increase represents an opportunity to open Fiji to an additional 670 visitors per day,†Wong said.
Wong challenged the participants as they also play an important role in getting visitors in the country.
“The path ahead for our tourism industry is dependent to a significant extent on the role you play as front-liners to promote Fiji’s friendly hospitality and the diverse holiday options to your clients,†he added.
