New IT system to drive English Tourism information
The English Tourism Council (ETC) has awarded a contract to TouchVision Systems and SchlumbergerSema to develop a content management system that will enable the development of a network of services linking up local and regional tourism databases.
The awarding of the contract is a key phase in the development of the EnglandNet online information and e-business network for English tourism. The EnglandNet project is being jointly developed by English Tourism Council and the English Regional Tourist Boards with the aid of a £0.9 million grant from the Treasury’s Capital Modernisation Fund last year.
Commenting on the appointment, ETC’s Head of Tourism Technology Andrew Duff said: “The information and e-business services of EnglandNet will be designed to interact with existing tourism databases managed by local tourism offices and Regional Tourist Boards in England. It’s essential that EnglandNet offers a way of working with a variety of database systems including those run by popular tourist destinations with their own websites.
“The aim is to achieve an information network to pull tourism content together in a powerful new way. Addressing this will bring about a big improvement for visitors and boost the competitiveness of English Tourism”.
