New MSC Cruises ‘banned list’ update leaves guests confused
A new MSC Cruises website update has added Google Glasses to its prohibited items list.
However, it has left customers unsure whether they are fully banned from ships.
The new update states: ‘devices capable of covertly or discreetly recording or transmitting data (e.g. smart glasses) are not allowed in public areas.’
This doesn’t completely line up with their ‘items forbidden onboard’ policy.
MSC Cruises hasn’t yet clarified the issue.
Smart glasses can record video audio discreetly, which can be a privacy concern for others, which seems to be the cruise line’s concern as it specifically states ‘public areas.’
However, some travel agents have reportedly told clients they may not be allowed on board at all, while one guest posted that they were just recently able to bring smart glasses on the ship without any issue.
“Port Security has the duty to search guests and luggage to confiscate any article internationally known as dangerous for the safety and security of Guests, Crew and ship,” the website policy says.
