New Orleans Airport posts record passenger traffic
Passenger traffic at New Orleans Airport was sky high in 2018, with a record13.1 million travelers.
It was up 9.3% on 2017 and is the eighth year in a row of passenger growth.
Passenger totals are up 60% since 2010 the airport said in a release.
It comes just ahead of the opening of a new $1 billion airport terminal at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport which will house 35 gates and three concourses.
It is slated to officially open on May 15.
Director of aviation Kevin Dolliole said the airport is seeking new airlift and has seven new routes starting this year.
These include Raleigh-Durham flights by both Spirit Airlines and Delta, seasonal flights to Montego Bay on vacation Express and Alaska Airlines daily departures to Seattle.
"The new terminal complex will help us support and sustain this phenomenal growth," said New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell.
