New Orleans opens office of optimism
The New Orleans tourism industry announced a new special media center to promote the positive stories associated with the city’s recovery.
“In the face of disaster, there are positive stories of recovery and rebirth that aren’t receiving the attention that they warrant,” said Sandra S. Shilstone, president and CEO of New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation.
Tourism has long been New Orleans’ largest economic engine. But Ms Shilstone said the area would have to get out the positive news before travelers returned to the city.
The New Orleans area had a record 10.1 million visitors last year.
“Our business relies on tourists and without the industry’s recovery, we won’t survive,” said Dan King, incoming president of the Greater New Orleans Hotel-Lodging Association.
Mr Kind is also general manager of the Sheraton Hotel, which houses the new media department.
