New St. Louis facility will court small conventions
The long-awaited St. Charles Convention Center set to open early next month will give the St. Louis, MO area a new venue for small to mid-sized exhibitions and conventions.
The center includes a 16,200 square foot ballroom that can be divided into six smaller ballrooms. The lower level has 27,600 square feet of exhibit hall.
Though the center was on schedule to open, tourism officials said an adjoining 296-room Embassy Suites hotel will not start accepting guests until next July, six months after originally scheduled.
But that’s unlikely to cause any problems, said Steve Powell, director of the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau. Most of the early events are local affairs.
