A travel start-up is experimenting with colour recognition technology as part of a drive to bridge the gap between social networking and travel purchases.
Explorra.com, started by Ciprian Morar, formerly with Expedia, has developed a concept called Travel by Color.
The interactive visual discovery tool allows users to discover travel guides in a new way by just using colour.
The site features image recognition technology which calculates the nearest neighbour colour given a certain data set and matches it to the photographs in various destinations.
Technology director Bogdan Stanescu said: “We’re experimenting with a new breed of travel technology applications and this is really just a fun way to discover new places.”
The site aims to combine the niche interests of users with mash-ups and commerce.
An Apple iPhone application around geo-located/location aware content is also to be launched.
