New TMS CEO Andrew Chan beefs up WA
Just days after taking the helm at TMS Asia-Pacific, newly appointed CEO Andrew Chan has moved to increase the recruitment specialist’s operation in Western Australia.
Announcing the appointment of Sharon Moss and Scott Worgan to manage a dedicated WA desk Mr Chan said that while WA was feeling the effects of the global crisis, the region’s hospitality and travel industry continued to offer potential for the company.
“The WA industry has been experiencing a shortfall of skilled candidates for several years now, exacerbated in part by the state’s mineral boom,†he said.
“This is particularly the case in regional WA where the tourism industry continues to struggle to find qualified staff.”
“But with the state’s resource sector starting to feel the effects of the global recession and employers’ belts beginning to tighten, many people who left the travel industry to take on new roles with companies involved in the resource boom are now starting to filter back.â€
“We’re seeing slow growth in both the number of employers looking to recruit short term staff and the number of available candidates, many of them overseas-based Australians heading back home for the summer months.”
“And if the British press is anything to go by, we can expect to see a significant increase in these numbers with the news that record numbers of Australians are leaving the UK to find better job opportunities back home.â€
Many of these, he said, have good experience working in the European hospitality and travel sector.
Ms Moss will manage temporary/contract portfolio activity while Mr Worgan will focus on permanent recruitment.
