New travel curbs across Europe jeopardising summer recovery
Hopes of a summer travel rebound on the continent are looking increasingly slim with new lockdowns announced across parts of Europe. Resurgent infections led to a new month-long lockdown in Paris and much of northern France, as well as additional curbs in Poland.
A second consecutive lost summer of travel could lead to more airline casualties. "There’s a risk of an increased number of bankruptcies particularly between now and the end of the year," Alexandre de Juniac, IATA chief, told Reuters.
Still, there is some positive news across the English Channel.. Health Minister Matt Hancock said the UK is on track to ease some lockdown measures according to its roadmap timeline, as half of all adults have now received at east one Covid-19 vaccine dose.
