New Venice tourist fee goes live
The Venice tourist fee reservation system is now live.
The platform for visitors to purchase the €5 fee to enter the city for day-trippers has now launched and allows visitors to pay ahead of their visit.
Visitors staying overnight in the city are exempt.
Venice authorities have officially enforced the Venice Access Fee, for day visitors during 29 designated peak dates in the year.
The Venice Access Fee aims to discourage overtourism during peak periods.
The system issues a QR code upon payment.
It is applicable on specific days from 25 April to 5 May and on weekends in May, June and July, from 8:30am to 4pm, excluding access to the islands.
Tourism officials says it will promote a more sustainable tourism industry and strike a balance between growing the economy and preserving its authenticity.
