New Visitor centre for Clare Valley
South Australia’s Clare Valley has a new $1.3 million Visitor Information Centre, which will promote the area and provide visitors with information on Clare Valley’s food and wine, accommodation, history, arts and festivals.
SA Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith said, “With a rich cultural tapestry dating back 160 years and more than 35 cellar doors, Clare Valley is both a world class holiday destination and premier wine region, just an hour and a half north of Adelaide.”
The SA Government, through the South Australian Tourism Commission, contributed $400,000 to the project, which was largely funded by the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council and also supported by the Clare Valley Winemakers.
Ms Lomax-Smith added, “Marketing regional attractions was an important aspect in increasing visitor expenditure and visitor information centres play an integral role in regional tourism, with Centre staff and volunteers at the frontline of the region’s tourism industry, constantly providing information on local facilities to tourists, encouraging them to stay longer and experience more”.
“Visitors armed with the right tourism information often prolong their visit, helping to build the economy and create jobs for regional areas.”
