New York-bound Air India flight diverted after multiple instrument failure
Air India pilots have been lauded for bringing a jetliner down safely after experiencing multiple instrument failure in the cockpit.
Flight AI 101 was at an altitude of just 300 feet approaching landing at New York’s JFK airport when equipment failed.
The plane aborted the landing and rose to 2,000 feet but had lateral and vertical navigation instrument failure.
These instruments assist pilots in low visibility.
Air India pilots told air traffic control a manual non-precision approach was needed due to widespread equipment failure but the low cloud cover at JFK was problematic for a safe landing.
The plane was then given clearance to divert to Newark where emergency crews were on standby, according to the Aviation Herald.
It landed at EWR without incident.
