New York tourist hotspot was next bomb target
New York’s Times Square was to be the next target for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
At a press conference yesterday, New York Major Michael Bloomberg said the brothers had planned to drive to New York and detonate explosives in the city’s famous tourist hotspot.
"Last night we were informed by the FBI that the surviving attacker revealed that New York City was next on their list of targets," he told reporters.
"He and his older brother intended to drive to New York and detonate additional explosives in Times Square."
He said investments in security would have helped prevent an attack and that the brothers would have been met with an enormous police presence.
But he said the measures put into place, heightened following the Boston bombing, would still not completely eliminate the threat.
"Nothing can do that," he said.
Three people were killed and over 260 were wounded in the Boston attack on April 15.
