New Zealand Dream Destination for Brits
100,000 Britons voting in the 2006 British Travel Awards, announced in London last week, said New Zealand was their dream destination with New Zealand wining the prestigious award.
Tourism New Zealand’s chief executive, George Hickton, says the achievement proves New Zealand has everything Britons are looking for in a holiday.
New Zealand has already won the favourite “long haul destination” and “coolest destination” at other British travel awards this year, with international visitors generating an additional $NZ1b to the Kiwi tourism industry in the past year.
The latest NZ Ministry of Tourism figures show the amount foreign visitors spent rose to $NZ7b in the past year, up from $NZ6b the previous year also showing that British and Australian visitors spent the most money in the past year at $NZ2.7b.
Visitors from Germany and America were close behind, but spending by Chinese and Japanese tourists dropped by almost 20%.
The Tourism Industry Association says New Zealand’s outdoor experiences and range of options encourage people to spend more money.
