Newark airport hangar collapses
Four airport workers were admitted to hospital with injuries after an old aircraft hangar suddenly collapsed at Newark Liberty airport.
The four workers were part of a team of nine inside prepping the hangar for a planned demolition when it came apart.
The 90,000 square-foot Hangar 14 was owned by United Airlines but had not been used for about 10 years.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, said Joe Pentangelo, a Port Authority spokesman.
It was an eventful few hours on Wednesday at the airport with a man arrested later in the day for trespass.
A 30-year-old man who was described as ‘intoxicated’ flew in from Hartford, Conn., missed a connection to Florida and was apprehended trying to enter an empty jet parked on the tarmac.
A security sweep of the aircraft and immediate area was made ‘as a precaution’ but nothing suspicious was found, an airport spokesman said.
