No competition on South Australia routes may raise prices

Tuesday, 30 Jun, 2006 0

Qantas’ withdrawal from Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island led yesterday to regional airline Rex not ruling out an increase in ticket prices for their services on these routes.

Rex has announced it is increasing flights to Port Lincoln and Managing Director, Geoff Breust, commented that Rex is committed to keeping flight prices as they are, but with only one carrier, there will be fewer seats at peak times and that will affect prices.

He said, “Because there were so many available seats with two carriers at very, very low prices right across the whole spectrum of services during the week, there may be occasions now that there are fewer seats available, that some of the prices may be a bit higher.”
