No frills startup Swoop finally gets approval for US flights

Wednesday, 29 Oct, 2018 0

Canadian no frills carrier Swoop has finally received its final approval to begin normal scheduled services to the US after a week of cancellations.

The WestJet-backed startup failed to get full regulatory permission from U.S. authorities to begin flying south in time for its planned US launch and was forced to cancel 24 flights.

That left customers struggling to make alternative arrangements at the last minute.

Swoop’s first flight departed Edmonton for Phoenix on Saturday morning.

"Swoop would again like to apologize to our valued travellers for the inconveniences they have experienced and reassure travellers with upcoming flights that everything is in place," the airline told CTV News.

The ULCC also starts flying to Las Vegas, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Tampa.
