No more holiday selfies

The end of the holiday selfie? It is the ultimate 21st-century dilemma – how to ensure you have the best possible holiday snaps to post on your social media feeds. From selfie sticks to Instagram filters, there’s only so much travelers can do to secure the perfect envy inducing holiday snaps. Here at Siren towers, opinion is divided on the new service offered by travel company El Camino. For a fee you can hire a personal photographer to follow you around on holiday to take the pictures you can’t manage yourself. Is it the ultimate way to capture perfect memories or a step to far? Worth noting that the company doesn’t just take the photos, they also helpfully also organise trips; either for groups of 10-12 people, or by adding solo travelers to other groups.

Continuing with the selfie theme, it seems to be one of the tools in the election campaign armoury as MPs have travelled up and down the country to canvas for votes. Many consider that social media has been the true battleground for this election as celebrities and members of the public seek out selfies with their local candidates or one of the party leaders. The result is not only a truly comprehensive photo album of locations across the UK as MPs travel the country but some might argue they have resulted in a digital map of where support may or may not lie based on the number of selfies taken in a constituency. Is this the new mechanic for opinion polls? Time will tell, as speculated by CNBC. Be warned though…selfies taken in a polling booth could land you in jail.

Marrakech has had a bumper week on social media as the chosen venue for a certain David Beckham’s 40th birthday. The footballing legend chose this landmark birthday as the perfect excuse to join Instagram and along with his son and the other A-list guests at the luxury Amanjena resort, posted a series of photos from the £250,000 celebrations. Becks has accumulated more than 5.5 million followers on the photo sharing platform in less than a week.
