Norwegian Cruise Line gets approval for new PortMiami terminal
City commissioners have given the green light to Norwegian Cruise Line’s new terminal proposal at PortMiami.
Miami-Dade approved the project and will invest funds to build the terminal in addition to money already earmarked from Norwegian Cruise Line.
The futuristic all-glass building is slated for completion by late 2019 to coincide with the arrival of new ship Norwegian Encore.
The 166,500-square-feet terminal has been dubbed the ‘Pearl of Miami’ and the design was created by local design firm Bermello Ajamil & Partners.
It will have the capacity to handle two 5,000-passenger ships at the same time.
When first unveiled, NCLH president and CEO Frank Del Rio described it as an ‘iconic terminal that will contribute to Miami’s world famous skyline.’
The site is located close to Terminal A where Royal Caribbean is constructing its own new terminal.
