Norwegian ‘would base more than 150 aircraft at Gatwick’
Low-cost carrier Norwegian claims it would base at least 50 Dreamliners and 100 short-haul jets at Gatwick if it wins approval for a second runway.
CEO Bjorn Kjos told the Aviation Club in London that an additional runway at Gatwick would allow the carrier to be ‘even more ambitious’ in its plans for long-haul growth in the UK.
To feed passengers on to its long-haul route, the airline would base two short-haul aircraft at Gatwick for every Boeing 787.
Norwegian already operates flights from Gatwick to New York, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. It will launch a new service to Boston on March 27.
