NSW Japan Industry Forum takes action
In a unified front to tackle the Japanese market, the NSW Japan Industry Forum agreed last Thursday to integrate the promotion of Sydney in Japan.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Sandra Nori led a discussion about the market at a meeting of the NSW Japan Industry Forum.
“It’s important that the NSW tourism industry presents a consistent image of Sydney and NSW in the Japanese market – that includes working together to ensure Sydney is top of mind for consumers,” she said.
Representatives of the NSW tourism industry with an interest in Japan, including influential members of Yonsha kai, Japanese inbound tour operators and federal and state government agencies, met to discuss activities for the upcoming year.
“A consistent theme coming from the forum was the continued need to unearth and develop new and different ways to experience the city,” Ms Nori said.
“We need to better communicate our experiences and encourage Japanese travellers to get out and experience the city. Some ideas from today’s forum included Welcome Hours at hotels and High Teas after long shopping trips.
“The group highlighted the importance of Sydney’s Harbour and the desire of women travellers in particular to get out and meet the locals while experiencing the beautiful waterways of this city
“To further explore how best to do this in the market, I asked the Forum to nominate a working group who will directly input into the NSW Japan Tourism Strategy, and begin by working up a “product matrix” across the many great experiences we wish to showcase to the Japanese traveller, ” Ms Nori said.
Ms Nori said that Tourism NSW was commended for the initiative of bringing the relevant players to the table, so a united front could be presented in the market.
