NSW State Tourism Awards Finalists announced
Outgoing News South Wales Minister for Tourism Sandra Nori, last week announced that 93 NSW tourism operators are finalists in the 2006 NSW Tourism Awards.
The 2006 NSW Tourism Awards are being managed in a partnership between Tourism NSW and the Tourism Industry Council NSW, with the judging process fully co-ordinated by the Council.
Ms Nori said, “The standard of entries this year was extremely high, making the judges’ task very difficult,” adding, “This demonstrates the high standard in the NSW tourism industry and I hope it will encourage more tourism businesses to enter the Awards next year”.
“These Awards are important recognition of the hard work that local businesses put into the tourism industry, attracting vital investment and jobs for regional areas,” she said.
Ms Nori added, “I would like to extend an invitation to the tourism industry to attend the Awards night, which is the major industry event of the yea.”
The winners will be announced at the NSW Tourism Awards presentation and dinner on Thursday, November 16 at Star City Hotel and Casino in Sydney.
The NSW Tourism Awards recognise business excellence in tourism and tourism-related products and services and there has been robust debate over recent years about their relevance to the industry and consumers as a result of their business excllence status, rather that having a stronger consumer focus.
With 31 categories, the NSW Tourism Awards include attractions, festivals and events, ecotourism, tour and transport operators, marketing, a range of accommodation styles, contributions from individuals and the young achiever award.
Finalists were decided by judges nominated by Regional Tourism Organisations, key industry associations and government agencies.
Tickets for the New South Wales Tourism Awards presentation and dinner are on sale now and to book seats or a table call Showbiz on (02) 8289 8636.
