NTSB: United Express flight totally missed Maine runway
A United Express flight which was first reported to have skidded off an icy runway a few weeks ago actually missed the runway entirely.
A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board said it actually landed in an area between the runway and taxiway.
This was the second attempt at landing at Presque Isle International Airport after an earlier one was aborted.
The hard landing badly wrecked the landing gear, part of which ended it stuck in an engine cowling.
The crash injured one crew member and two passengers.
The 50-seater Embraer jet was carrying 28 passengers.
