In May this year, the world’s largest musical event will take place in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, with the city hosting the annual Eurovision Song Contest following Finland’s ‘monsterous’ win with Lordi and Hard Rock Hallelujah at last year’s event in Athens.

The 52nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be staged at the Hartwall Areena, Helsinki’s main entertainment arena, and the 2007 theme is ‘True Fantasy’.

The semi final will take place Thursday 10 May and be broadcast on Australian television Friday 11 May. The final will take place Saturday 12 May and be broadcast on Australian television Sunday 13 May.

Launched in 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest-running television programmes in the world. Up to 600 million people watch the show each year as it is broadcast in all European countries, as well as in countries such as Australia, Canada, Egypt, Jordan, Hong Kong, India, Korea, New Zealand and the US.

It is also possible, since 2000, to view the event online.
