Obama-watch heads to Martha’s Vineyard in August
London tourists may be waiting for the Royal Baby, but US celebrity-watchers this summer will be booking Martha’s Vineyard in August.
That’s where they might catch a glimpse of the Obamas, who announced they will spend their summer vacation by the Massachusetts sea, beginning August 10.
This will be President Obama’s fourth trip to the wealthy island in the Democrat-friendly Kennedy heartland.
The President and First Lady plan to remain on the island until August 18, the White House said on Friday afternoon.
The President’s staff declined to comment on where the First Couple will be staying, or whether the girls will be coming too, though they typically vacation with their parents.
Locals say Sharky’s Cantina is preparing to roll out its "Obamarita," made with mandarin oranges, pineapple juice, and tequila.
The third week of August is the high point of the high season at the Vineyard.
There’s the annual Livestock Show and Fair, the Grand Illumination fireworks and the Oak Bluffs fireworks, the Summer Vineyard Artisans Festival, the Vineyard Ghost Walking Tour.
There’s even a Grateful Dread reggae show on August 13.
For higher brows, Harry Belafonte will perform at an invitation-only event being organized by Charles Ogletree, Obama’s former professor at Harvard Law School.
