South African Airways and OctopusTravel.com have agreed to collaborate on bookings made on the internet and over the telephone.

The deal brings to 50 the number of carriers OctopusTravel.com now has formal partnership agreements around the world to provide accommodation and other travel services. The company forged deals with more than 30 airlines in 2004.

Under the new agreement, customers buying SAA flights will be offered the chance to book hotel accommodation and other travel related services, such as sightseeing and private transfers to and from the airport through OctopusTravel.com.

OctopusTravel.com will provide links to a co-branded website for each of SAA’s eight local sites and also provide a technical solution to SAA’s call centres in London, South Africa and the US.

The agreement envisages a growing relationship between the two companies over the next few years, according to OctopusTravel.com.

Daniela Wagner, the company’s international managing director, said: “Both OctopusTravel.com and SAA have a very strong focus on customer service. We will be collaborating closely to ensure that our customers receive a truly seamless service, from searching and booking on-line to the whole travel experience afterwards.”

Onkgopotse JJ Tabane, SAA vice president corporate communications, said: “Through our deal with OctopusTravel.com, we will be able to offer our customers a much more comprehensive service embracing private transfers, sightseeing, destination guides in several languages and more.
