Oman’s desert race a test for the best
The fourth edition of the Trans Al Hajar Mountain Bike Cycling Tour has attracted competitors from 12 countries to Oman over three days from February 5 – 8.
The event will start with 38.6kms individual time trials on graded roads and rocky tracks with short steep ascents and descents plus the Rock Garden, followed next day by an 84kms marathon stage.
On day 3, there will be a tough 126 kms stage with some monumental climbs and a series of tricky water crossings while the final day will see a gruelling 55 kms marathon stage as the finale.
Chief organiser Lake Arapakis said that the race is gaining popularity with 70 professional and amateur riders competing from both Oman and overseas.
The winners will receive US$26,000 for first place, US$13,000 for second place and US$6,500 for third place.
