Once-frigid Valley Forge warms up to conventions
Valley Forge in Pennsylvania was well-documented as the bitter cold military camp of the American Continental Army in 1778-78 during the Revolutionary war but the hotel hoopla that started in late 2010 in Montgomery County and the surrounding area continues to be hot.
The Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia is now open.
The property inside the Convention center offers 486 guest rooms among two existing hotels, 100,000 square-feet of meeting and convention space and eight dining options.
The King of Prussia next fall will also welcome a new 180-room Sheraton Valley Forge. It will have 25,000 square feet of meeting space, a restaurant, bar, indoor pool and expanded fitness center.
The new Hilton Garden Inn Valley Forge/Oaks is currently under construction and scheduled for an October 2012 opening. The 135-room property will feature more than 5,000 square-feet of meeting space
There’s also a boutique hotel in the mix. The Woodside Lodge at Spring Mountain near Schwenksville is a newly-remodeled 1920s era nine-room country manor. It’s the only inn with an adjacent ski area in the Philadelphia area. The property, with $1.5 million in renovations opened in early February, features seven two-room suites, a first-floor accessible room, plus a bunk room that sleeps eight. It also has a full-service restaurant and bar and more than 1,700 square feet of event space.
