One airline’s loss is another’s gain
EasyJet has revealed it carried 7.9% more passengers last year than in 2009, and in December, when rival British Airways’ services were hit by severe snow and ice at Heathrow and Gatwick, the low-cost carrier saw its traffic grow by 7.6% compared with December 2009.
The Luton-based airline carried 3,657,186 passengers last month, pushing its load factor up fractionally to 85.8%.
In stark contrast, British Airways saw its passenger numbers fall by 8.3% last month, in which it estimates it lost £50m in revenue due to the grounding of its services during the bad weather.
For the full year, easyJet carried 49.7million passengers and its overall load factor was 87.2%.
